Indoor law enforcement training academy range with acoustic panels, safety ceiling, and ballistic trap in Fredericksburg, Virginia

Regional Law Enforcement Training Academy Range

Multi-agency indoor range systems installation

Regional Law Enforcement Training Academy Range - Fredericksburg, VA

Overview

This project involved the installation of a comprehensive indoor shooting range system at a regional law enforcement training facility in Fredericksburg, Virginia. East Coast Installation Group supported the construction and integration of critical safety, ballistic, and acoustic systems designed to accommodate high-volume, multi-agency training operations.

The installation included overhead safety systems, ballistic containment, acoustic wall treatments, and a full-width granular rubber bullet trap, all coordinated to meet strict safety and performance requirements for professional training environments.

Planning

Project planning focused on integrating multiple range systems into a single, cohesive installation while prioritizing ballistic integrity and long-term durability. Equipment layouts and load requirements were reviewed to ensure compatibility with the existing structure and to support frequent, intensive use by multiple agencies.

Key planning considerations included:

  • Coordination of ceiling-mounted safety systems and light guards

  • Integration of acoustic wall panels throughout the range envelope

  • Layout and installation of a full-width ballistic bullet trap system

  • Verification of access clearances and installation sequencing

Regulatory Compliance

All work was performed in alignment with recognized safety standards and manufacturer requirements for indoor law enforcement training ranges.

Compliance considerations included:

  • Ballistic coverage exceeding projectile trajectory requirements

  • Structural coordination to support the combined weight of installed systems

  • Adherence to range safety restrictions and manufacturer installation criteria

Construction / Installation Process

The project was executed in defined phases to ensure system performance, safety, and reliability.

  • Safety Ceiling & Overhead Protection: Installation of an indoor range safety ceiling system incorporating plywood substrates, acoustic dura-panels, and adhesive-mounted assemblies to protect overhead structures and personnel.

  • Light Guard Systems: Installation of ceiling-mounted AR500 steel light guards and gap protectors to shield lighting and structural elements from projectile impact.

  • Acoustic Wall Panels: Installation of acoustic dura-panel wall systems along sidewalls, up-range, and down-range surfaces to manage sound and improve training conditions.

  • Ballistic Containment System: Installation of a heavy-duty granular rubber bullet trap system, utilizing bolted shield assemblies and fire-resistant coatings designed for sustained training use.

Maintenance and Upkeep

The installed systems were designed to support long-term operational reliability with defined maintenance requirements.

Maintenance considerations included:

  • Routine inspection of overhead safety and light guard systems

  • Periodic evaluation of acoustic panels and adhesive bonds

  • Ongoing maintenance and replenishment of granular rubber media in the bullet trap

Conclusion

The successful completion of this indoor range installation demonstrates East Coast Installation Group’s capability to deliver complex, multi-system range environments for regional law enforcement training facilities. Through careful coordination, adherence to manufacturer specifications, and precision installation, the facility was equipped with durable, safety-focused systems designed to support long-term, high-volume training operations, professional execution, the facility was equipped with reliable range systems designed to support ongoing training for multiple agencies and disciplines.
